About HCA HealthONE Spine and Sport Neurosurgery
Led by Chad J. Prusmack, MD — a Harvard-educated, Columbia-trained and board-certified neurosurgeon — our team has decades of experience performing advanced spinal surgeries and sports medicine treatments.
A pioneer in sports medicine
In 2021, Dr. Prusmack forged new ground when he placed the first artificial cervical disc in a National Hockey League (NHL) player, Jack Eichel, of the Vegas Golden Knights. Today, he is honored to continue serving as the primary neurosurgical consultant for professional teams across multiple leagues.
Conditions treated by our neurosurgeon
To address your discomfort, our team treats a wide variety of conditions, including:
- Brain injuries, including concussions
- Herniated discs
- Nerve disorders
- Scoliosis
- Spinal deformities
- Spine injuries
- Spondylopathies
Complete spine and sports care
All high-level sports put athletes at risk of injury to the spine and brain. While equipment and policies for protection have advanced in recent years, you can still get injured. It’s our job to help you get back to feeling strong and healthy as fully and quickly as possible.
If you experience spinal or neck pain unrelated to a sports injury, we aim to support your recovery process by giving you a chance at returning to your desired level of activity.
Our commitment to excellence begins when you enter our practice and continues throughout your recovery. We are dedicated to providing complete surgical fitness, which includes maintaining a positive mindset, optimizing health assets and contributing to lifelong wellness.
In addition to advanced treatments, we are proud to provide you with our nationally recognized neurosurgeon’s expertise in concussion evaluations and sports clearance exams.
Minimally invasive spine procedures
Whenever possible, our surgeries are performed with advanced minimally invasive techniques, which often lead to fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, faster recoveries and diminished scarring. We also have advanced technology that typically allows us to increase precision and tailor surgery to your specific anatomy.
When you come to us for a sports injury or spinal pain, we begin by finding an accurate diagnosis. We team up with you to determine the root cause of pain and create a treatment plan that makes sense for your diagnosis, current health, lifestyle and goals. Treatments may include:
- Arthroscopy
- Cervical disc replacement
- Cervical procedures
- Intradiscal stem cell injections
- Lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF)
- Spinal decompression
- Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TILF)
Our surgical fitness program
Unique to our practice is our perioperative surgical fitness program. Throughout his career, Dr. Prusmack has created protocols that often increase the effectiveness of treatments, which can lead to exceptional long-term outcomes and a more rapid return to sport and activity. These guidelines include nutrition, supplements, strength and conditioning.
Patient resources
Our patients are our priority, and we consider all of you to be like family to us. You can always count on us to do our best to get you all the information you need to make informed decisions about your care.
