Services our transplant program provides

If one of your organs — such as the kidney or liver — is failing or diseased, you may benefit from a transplant. Our specialists offer a variety of services, including follow-up care after the procedure.

Types of transplants

To make sure that all of your care is coordinated, we collaborate with medical and surgical staff from the start of the organ evaluation process through surgery and into post-transplant recovery.

There are several methods of organ donations, including:

  • Altruistic donor transplants
  • Deceased donor transplants
  • Living donor transplants

If a donor is found, our transplant team will call you.

Liver transplant services

The liver transplant procedure can help with liver failure. During your surgery, all or part of the damaged liver is removed and replaced with a healthy one. Our areas of expertise for surgical treatment include:

  • Microwave ablation procedures
  • Minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • Robot-assisted liver surgery resections

Kidney transplant services

When a kidney is no longer able to function on its own, a transplant may be necessary. A donor kidney will be used to replace the failing kidney with a healthy one. To evaluate whether you would benefit from a kidney transplant, our team will assess your situation.

You can expect a kidney transplant procedure to last approximately three to four hours under general anesthesia. We understand that there are other factors that come into play during your surgery, so we strive make sure that we have all of the proper services you need. Some of these additional resources include:

  • Financial counseling
  • Pregnancy counseling
  • Transplant education classes
  • Urologic care

Kidney paired donation (KPD) program

For family members that would like to donate a kidney to a friend or other family member, but may not be a match, our KPD program is a helpful tool to be paired with other recipients who have non-matching donors. A number of transplant centers use this process of matching potential recipients through the computer database, increasing the possibility of finding a match. If one is found, the involved transplant centers work closely to coordinate the surgeries and follow-up as needed.

Postoperative and follow-up care

After your surgery, you will be observed and taken to a designated transplant area. Our staff will monitor you to check on organ function and rejection and look for any potential infection risks. You may be given a combination of infections.

Support groups

Support groups can help with the success of your transplant. We invite you to participate in a monthly support group that we offer, at no cost to you or your family. Having resources and education on hand can help you navigate the process and meet other people who have had similar experiences to yours.
