Hip and knee pain treatment
Don’t let your hip and knee pain hold you back from doing the things that you love! We know that chronic hip and knee pain can affect nearly every aspect of your life. And for those who are accustomed to living active, dynamic lifestyles, being restricted by pain can feel like a punishment of the worst kind. But you don’t have to suffer. We can help.
Hip pain
The cause of hip pain can be as simple as a torn ligament and as significant as hip dysplasia. Our team is experienced in finding an accurate diagnosis and then creating and performing treatment plans that offer lasting results. We often treat:
- Hip dysplasia: A shallow hip socket causes the ball of the hip to not fit properly
- Hip arthritis: The joint space narrows and there is inflammation of the ball and socket
- Hip impingement (femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)): Irregularity in the shape of the hip bones, they rub against one another
- Hip labral tear: a tear in the lining of the hip socket
- Hip instability: Hip joint is loose or weak
These conditions can be painful and debilitating, but we have the tools to repair your hip and get you back to moving freely once again.
Hip preservation surgery
This type of surgery is an excellent solution for hip dysplasia and hip arthritis treatments, especially among younger, active patients. During hip preservation surgery, your surgeon will either reshape the natural joint, repair damaged tissue or replace the damaged tissue.
Total hip replacement
Total hip replacement eliminates pain in the hip joint by completely replacing it with a new, prosthetic joint; Dr. Swann is expertly trained to take care of any hip replacement surgery through a minimally invasive and muscle sparing technique.
Revision hip replacement
If you have had a hip replacement performed elsewhere that has failed or has worn down over time, we are experts in the complex process of revising the surgery to get you back to healthy movement.
Knee pain
Chronic knee pain is often caused by knee arthritis—the wear and tear of the joint over time, breaking down the cartilage of the joint, causing the bones to rub against each other. Other common causes of knee pain include meniscal tears of the knee or other cartilage damage and soft tissue inflammation in the knee, such as bursitis.
We first accurately diagnose the cause of your knee pain and then work with you to create a treatment plan that meets your unique needs, lifestyle and goals. We provide many treatment options, and we will work with you to find the best for your needs. Dr. Swann is experienced in highly advanced treatments including robotic surgery and other minimally invasive techniques, kinetic alignment and partial knee replacement.
Partial knee replacement
Also called uni-compartmental knee, this procedure resurfaces the part of the knee that is affected by arthritis restoring natural motion and eliminating pain while keeping native ligaments in place.
Total knee replacement
Knee pain is eliminated by completely replacing the knee’s components with a new, prosthetic joint. Dr. Swann has created his own highly effective, innovative protocols that are proven to decrease recovery time, reduce opioid use and get patients to full range of motion faster.
Revision knee replacement
If a knee replacement surgery has failed due to infection, fracture, or a poorly done procedure at another facility, our surgeon is an expert in revising the procedure through a complex procedure that offers a new lease on life for knee replacement patients.
