Pediatric general and neonatal surgeons

Children's needs are numerous and diverse, so our experienced surgeons aim to be able to provide a range of surgical care that is personalized to their needs.

Surgical care for children

The board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons at our facility specialize in a variety of surgical specialties and work to cater services to the needs of your child. Additionally, being part of a large network allows us to work directly with other pediatric physicians who bring an added level of expertise for procedures that require further specialization.

One of the foundations of our surgical practice is using minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible. These types of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures can provide a range of benefits for your child, including reduced pain, scarring and recovery time. We apply these techniques across our continuum of specialties and have found them to be integral in helping your kid feel like a kid again.

Surgeries we offer include:

  • Appendectomy
  • Chest wall abnormality correction
  • Cholecystectomy
  • Diaphragmatic hernia repair
  • Duodenal atresia repair
  • General surgery, including hernia repair and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders
  • Lobectomy
  • Lung resection
  • Neonatal surgery, including treatment of congenital abnormalities, congenital pulmonary airway malformations (CPAM), esophageal atresia (EA) and tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF)
  • Nissen fundoplication
  • Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure

Surgical and nonsurgical chest wall abnormality correction

We typically treat two types of chest wall abnormalities, including pectus excavatum, when the chest bone dips inward — otherwise known as "sunken chest" — and pectus carinatum, when the chest bone protrudes.

While both types are present at birth, many are not physically noticeable until the teen years. They also do not show any other symptoms. For treatment, nonsurgical options are always explored first, including bracing for pectus excavatum.

With bracing, your child is fitted with a personalized brace that they wear 24/7 (under clothing) for anywhere between six months and year. During this time, the brace gently guides their back's structures into place without subjecting your child to any further trauma or significant pain. Bracing often begins around ages of 10 to 15. It also works well just before a growth spurt.
