Services offered by our foot and ankle physicians
Injuries, abnormalities and other conditions of the feet and ankles are highly complex, and they require specific skill sets beyond basic orthopedics to treat. This is why we offer advanced techniques for diagnosing and treating foot and ankle issues, enabling you to feel confident about the care you’ll receive with us.
Diagnosing your condition
The foot and ankle are interconnected structures with 26 bones and more than 30 joints. When this area is damaged due to trauma, overuse, genetic deformity or disease, it affects your stability and balance.
Our orthopedic foot and ankle specialists use several imaging methods to accurately diagnose your condition, including:
- Arthroscopy — video-guided look at the inside of your joint
- Biopsy — lab examination of a sample of tissue or cells
- Computerized tomography (CT) scan — detailed images produced by X-rays and computer technology
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) — three-dimensional images of your soft tissues produced by magnets, radio waves and a computer
- X-ray — images of the soft tissue and structures inside of your body produced by electromagnetic radiation
Nonsurgical foot and ankle treatments
We use nonsurgical methods whenever possible with the objective to reduce pain, maintain circulation and support healing foot and ankle bones. These treatments include:
- Braces
- Compression
- Corticosteroid injections
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Physical therapy and rehabilitation services
Surgical foot and ankle treatments
Our foot and ankle doctors specialize in post-traumatic reconstruction of the foot and ankle, treating adult foot and ankle deformities and caring for athletic injuries.
We're constantly learning the latest technology and techniques. We also innovate surgical techniques of our own to better suit your needs. As a result, we can perform many common to complex foot and ankle procedures, including:
- Achilles tendon repair — stitching a damaged Achilles tendon back together or replacing it altogether
- Ankle arthrodesis — fusing the bones in the ankles with screws or plates to treat arthritis
- Ankle fusion — Fusing the bones of your ankle using bone grafts, screws or plates
- Ankle replacement — removing part of the bone and cartilage in your ankle and replacing them with prosthetic implants
- Arthroplasty — replacing some or all of a joint with a prosthetic implant
- Bunion correction — repositioning your big toe if a bunion has affected it
- Clubfoot repair — straightening your child's leg if they were born with one or both feet turned inward
- External fixation or internal fixation — aligning and immobilizing broken bones in your foot or ankle
