For more than a decade, Dr. Raj Wilson has been a patient of Dr. Krista Bowers. An internist, Dr. Bowers has provided Dr. Wilson ongoing preventative care and has seen him through many illnesses and even injuries from a car accident. While many patients have long-time loyalties to their primary care physicians, Dr. Wilson is uniquely dedicated: after Dr. Bowers moved from Dr. Wilson's home state of Texas to HCA HealthONE Aspen Medical Group in Denver, Colorado, he continued as her patient, dutifully making the flight from San Antonio to Denver at least three times a year.
"She really took care of me and is very concerned with me," Dr. Wilson explains of his commitment. "It is difficult to find a good doctor like her." For his visits, Dr. Wilson will take a flight nonstop from San Antonio to Denver, leaving at 6:00am and often flying home the same day around 8:00pm.
Dr. Wilson is a professor of Mathematics at the University of Texas San Antonio. Dr. Wilson was referred to Dr. Bowers when she was a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio (now UTHealth San Antonio). Prior to that, he had been without a primary care physician for many years. One of the qualities that Wilson most respects in Dr. Bowers is her willingness to teach continually. "She taught me how to deal with any medical concern and educated me about it in the best way," Wilson said. "She explains why she is doing everything, which I need. I do not know medicine--I am a mathematician!"
Dr. Wilson emigrated to the United States more than 30 years ago, leaving behind family and friends in India. He adds that his relationship and high-quality care from Dr. Bowers is comforting to his loved ones far away. "I made the right choice to stay with Dr. Bowers," he states. "My family overseas know that I am well taken care of and that is precious."
